8 Things Every Great Guest Bedroom Needs

8 Things Every Great Guest Bedroom Needs

Your guests are coming, do you have a guest bedroom that is ready for them? You probably already have the basics of decorating a guest bedroom covered like a bed, clean linens and pillows. However, some extras help make your guests feel at home. Here are some things that every great guest bedroom needs.

1. Space to unpack

Your guests have traveled a long way to visit and are probably tired from hauling their luggage, briefcases, and backpacks through the airport. The best guest rooms have some space to unpack.

We like placing a bench at the foot of the bed to give them a place to unpack their clothes. If you don't have room for a bench, a simple chair is just as helpful.

2. Storage

Most don’t enjoy living out of a suitcase for a few days. If you have the room, empty a few drawers, the closet, and nightstand to give your guests room to store their clothes and accessories.

Also, make sure there is a place in the bathroom for them to store their toiletries along with a few extra items in case they forgot something.

3. Keep your guests cozy

Being cold or hot in someone else’s house can create an awkward situation for your guests. Make sure to have plenty of extra blankets left in the guest room for your guests to use. Also, consider purchasing an electric space heater and leave it in the room and encourage your guests to use it if it’s too cold in the room.

4. Don’t forget the mirror

Every guest rooms need a full-length mirror. If you are tight on space, mount it to the back of the door. If you have a little extra room, pick out something cute and lean it against the wall for some extra flair in the space. This allows your guests to make sure that their outfit looks perfect before heading down for dinner.

Also, let your guests know where the iron and ironing board are located in case they need to press some wrinkles out of their shirt, or, cute pencil skirt.

5. Great Artwork and Accessories

Keep in mind that your visitors are guests in your home and your town. You want to make them feel welcome in both. We always love accessorizing our guest bedrooms with local artists or art that features your city or town. This helps your guests get excited and shows some hometown pride.

Also, make sure to sprinkle in a few pieces of art or accessories from places that you have visited. Got a great piece you found on vacation in Europe? Perfect. A special blanket from your trip to Mexico? Bring it on!

Finally, go pick up a fresh bouquet from Trader Joes. The $5 investment goes a long way.

6. Lighting

The guest bedroom will be a place where your guests can retreat to some personal space. Make sure to place some lights on the nightstands for reading books at night (or checking Instagram). A dimmable floor lamp offers your guests the option to leave it on during the evening hours as they are getting ready. Finally, a night light or two is nice if they have kids who may be afraid of the new space.

7. Wifi, Chargers and More Chargers

We love to frame a piece of paper with the guest WiFi login and password. It's a cute way to share all of the details for getting their devices online. Also, leave out a basket full of various chargers for cell phones and tablets. Best to grab some cables for Apple and Android devices. We love these cute cables.

8. Books and other interesting items

Since your guests probably had to leave many of their items at home, a small bookcase with a few interesting books, magazines, and local guides give them something to read during downtimes.

We also like to leave a basket with some extra snacks and bottles of water in case they get hungry or thirsty and are not comfortable with raiding your kitchen.
