When Design Inside was selected to design this engaged couple’s Lincoln Park townhouse in the heart of Chicago, we knew that combining her lively, Italian taste with his restful, minimalist aesthetic would inspire spaces with both broad architectural appeal and exquisite details for the eye to explore. The powder room of this couple’s townhouse was in need of a dramatic redesign that would not only provide a space for guests to clean up, but would also fit in aesthetically with the recently renovated kitchen.
“After initially seeing the space, I knew immediately that I wanted to incorporate a floating vanity that would help keep the powder room feeling light and airy” said Kathryn Cherne, the lead designer on the project. To keep with the light and airy feel, a light painted cabinet was selected with a white vessel sink and a polished chrome faucet. Every last inch of the entire space was carefully designed so that the vanity and countertop would completely float off the floor and the adjacent walls.
For the vanity mirror, any old mirror would not do, so a custom mirror was created to perfectly fit the space, while 3 halogen bulbs provide the proper amount of clean white light to the space. To complete the room, the existing door was hollowed out to make space for a frosted glass door that would allow the light to powder room light shine into the hallway that leads into the kitchen and the living room.
