Traditional Evanston Kitchen

When we were asked to redesign the kitchen of a 2-bedroom cottage in Evanston, we were thrilled! While on the phone, the client warned us that the space was “small” and was concerned that we wouldn’t be able to do much with the space. We welcomed the challenge.

Use Every Square Inch

Building a beautiful and functional kitchen in this size of space requires lots of planning, hiding appliances where possible, and a little creativity with drywall thickness, allowing us to gain a 1/4″ here and a 1/2″ there.

Simple, Clean Design Helps Reduce the Visual Weight

Chicago is known for its small kitchens, and we have perfected designing for these types of spaces over the years. One trick is to reduce the visual “weight” of a room as much as possible. This includes hiding things like the dish washer, spice racks and keeping the door finish and hardware simple, yet elegant. We even selected the clean Lutron Diva switches and outlets.

Clean and Modern Appliances

When selecting appliances for this kitchen remodel, we wanted high quality appliances that had a clean look and feel to them. For this kitchen we selected a hidden Bosch dish washer, 30″ Stainless Steel cook top and stove from Thermador and a slide-out, low-profile hood from Best by Broan.

Rarely, do we get a chance to get a photo of ourselves in a finished kitchen. We really love how this space turned out and are really happy with how much the home owner loves her new kitchen.
