Pointillism for the 21st Century
By: Kathryn Cherne on September 29th, 2009
Back in my high school and college days, I remember being fascinated with creating pointillism artwork which was the art of creating an image with many little dots. I would create large pieces of art using the tiny sharpie markers. The end effect was a unique looking piece of art, however creating artwork of this variety took days depending on the size of the piece and how many dark areas there were in the artwork. The darker the subject matter, the more dots were required.
Today I ran across this article from Apartment Therapy that describes how to create pixelated artwork using paint which really took me back on a trip down memory lane. I even found another link in which an artist used the paint chips you can get from any of the major hardware stores to create a unique piece of artwork. Finally, here is a neat utility which will rasterize your artwork and splitting them up into sheets of paper so you can pint out. Whichever method you choose, these are all easy ways to create HUGE artwork for your home. Post your photos if you have created any artwork like this for your home.
